Gonarthrosis refers to incurable diseases, so the fight against the disease is reduced to slowing the progression of the disease and getting rid of pain. Medications prescribed for gonarthrosis include painkillers and anti–inflammatory drugs, including hormones, as well as medications that help restore cartilage tissue - chondoprotectors. To combat gonarthrosis, an orthopedic method of treatment is also used: wearing special rigid knee pads, using a cane and orthopedic insoles. Complex treatment of gonarthrosis is usually offered in sanatorium-resort institutions.
In addition to medical and orthopedic treatment, special physiotherapy procedures are being developed in sanatoriums, manual therapy and special massages are used. Physiotherapy procedures include electrophoresis, the use of diadynamic currents, magnetotherapy, cryotherapy, mud applications and baths. All programs necessarily include physical therapy, which allows you to improve blood circulation, metabolism and strengthen the muscles surrounding the diseased joint.
