Vladimir Vasilyevich Sidorov: a unique balneologist and a leader with a capital letter

On December 10, 2024, a landmark event in the history of the Ust-Kachka resort took place: the opening of a memorial plaque on the Uralsky building in honor of the Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Vasilyevich Sidorov.

He managed the health resort for a quarter of a century and "rolled mountains" for its development. Many employees of the resort still remember the former director, and are sincerely grateful to him for everything he did.

Vladimir Vasilyevich's contribution to the development of the health resort is difficult to overestimate, he sincerely loved the work he was doing. It was under his leadership that Ust-Kachka acquired a modern look, becoming the largest sanatorium and resort complex in Eastern Europe with a powerful medical base.

Vladimir Vasilyevich was appointed to the position of chief physician of the Resort in 1982, being already experienced and "noticeable" in professional circles. He set his goal not only to maintain the achievements of the sanatorium, but also to continue the work on the modernization of the health resort, improving infrastructure and introducing the requirements of the new time. Since the mid-80s, it was thanks to Vladimir Vasilyevich that the period of active reconstruction began. Wooden houses built in the post-war years were demolished. Instead, an industrial zone appeared, on the territory of which a new boiler room, production and vegetable warehouses appeared, and later a new transport workshop for 100 units of equipment. Ust-Kachka is becoming as autonomous as possible — a real independent "state".

The medical and scientific activities of the resort reached unprecedented heights during this period. The construction of the polyclinic and the second building of the balneotherapy clinic expanded the horizons of possibilities for the resort's capacity and the introduction of new medical procedures and wellness programs. Vladimir Vasilyevich solved the problem of personnel shortage of junior medical personnel by organizing medical schools: the resort trained its own personnel "without leaving the machine."

Vladimir Vasilyevich devoted a lot of effort to research activities, acting as an innovator in balneology and physiotherapy, actively participated in the development of new treatment programs at the resort: during his leadership, the resort received more than 30 patents and certificates for inventions in the field of mechanisms and effects of therapeutic factors of the resort. A new method of using highly mineralized iodobromic brine for various diseases has been developed and scientifically substantiated. The development of effective methods for improving children's health has become a serious scientific direction at the resort.

The resort's material base, created by Vladimir Vasilyevich, together with a professional team of like—minded people, as well as active interaction with large enterprises in the Urals, is the foundation with which Ust-Kachka operates to this day.
